Patna: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called Bihar the pride of not just India but the entire world. He said this while addressing people of the Indian community during his visit to Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday. Modi was welcomed warmly in the capital city, Port of Spain, where local people sang Bhojpuri Chautal, a traditional folk song from Bihar.
In his speech, Modi said that many people in Trinidad and Tobago have their roots in Bihar. He mentioned that the ancestors of former Prime Minister Kamala Prasad-Bissessar belonged to Buxar in Bihar, and people there consider her their daughter. Modi praised Bihar’s history, saying that the state has shown the world the way in democracy, politics, diplomacy, and higher education.
Modi also shared a video of the Bhojpuri Chautal performance on social media. He wrote in Bhojpuri that the cultural connection between Trinidad and Tobago and India, especially Eastern UP and Bihar, is very special. This is Modi’s first visit to Trinidad and Tobago as Prime Minister. He said that when he visited 25 years ago, the friendship was strong, and now it has become even deeper.
During his visit, Modi was welcomed with a guard of honour by Kamala Prasad-Bissessar. He will also address the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago. Modi said he was happy to see that streets in Trinidad and Tobago have names like Banaras, Patna, Kolkata, and Delhi, and that people there celebrate Indian festivals like Navratri, Mahashivratri, and Janmashtami with great joy.
