Samastipur: A young man from Samastipur, Bihar, has been arrested after he faked his own kidnapping to get money from his family. The youth, Govind Kumar, wanted to buy a four-wheeler but his family refused to give him money. So, he planned a fake kidnapping with his friend Rajneesh Tiwari. They made a video showing Govind tied to a tree and being beaten up and sent it to his family to scare them.
According to the police, Govind was returning from Pune when he decided to carry out his plan. Instead of going home, he went to Ara station on 1 July. There, he met Rajneesh and both went to a forest-like area near Gadhani station. Rajneesh tied Govind to a tree, removed his clothes, and shot the video. On 2 July, they sent the video to Govind’s wife from his mobile phone and demanded Rs 60,000 as ransom, threatening to kill him if they did not pay.
Govind’s family tried calling him but his phone was switched off. They kept getting ransom calls throughout the day, so they went to the local police and lodged a complaint. The police started their investigation and traced Govind and Rajneesh’s location through their mobile tower. Both were caught near Piro on Thursday night, and their phones were seized by the police.
During questioning, both confessed to the crime. Govind told the police that he did all this because his family was not giving him money for a car. Police have filed a case against them for creating fear, planning a fake kidnapping, and trying to extort money from the family. Officers said this act wasted police time and created unnecessary panic for his family members.
