Door-To-Door Voter List Verification Underway in Patna: Keep Documents Ready or Risk Deletion

Patna: A door-to-door campaign to verify and revise the electoral roll is currently underway across the city, with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) distributing enumeration forms as part of a special intensive revision drive by the Election Commission of India. Residents are being urged to cooperate and ensure they provide the required documentation to avoid having their names struck off the voter list.

Voters can also complete the process online, either by filling out the form digitally or by scanning a QR code provided by BLOs. Officials emphasised that the process is secure and there is no need for apprehension.

The Election Commission has issued a list of 11 documents that are acceptable for verification. Voters must present at least one document alongside the form. Special provisions apply depending on the applicant’s date of birth:

• Those born before July 1, 1987 must provide proof of their date and place of birth.
• For those born between July 1, 1987 and December 2, 2004, documentation must include proof of birth for both the applicant and their parents.

The enumeration form requires key details including the applicant’s name, parents’ names, address, a recent passport-size photograph (with a white background), Voter ID number, Aadhaar number, and date of birth.

According to District Magistrate Dr Tyagarajan S M, the last voter list revision was based on the eligibility date of January 1, 2003. Individuals who were listed as voters by that date are not required to submit any additional documents—they only need to complete the form. Furthermore, if either parent was listed on the electoral roll as of that date, their children are also exempt from providing documents, regardless of their date of birth.

Valid documents for verification include:

1. Government-issued identity cards (central/state/public sector employees), pension payment orders
2. ID cards or documents issued by government bodies, local authorities, banks, post offices, LIC, or PSUs before 1 July 1987
3. Birth certificate issued by a competent authority
4. Passport
5. Matriculation or other educational certificates from recognised boards or universities
6. Permanent residential certificate
7. Forest rights certificate
8. OBC/SC/ST caste certificate issued by a competent authority
9. National Register of Citizens (where applicable)
10. Family register prepared by state or local authorities
11. Land or house allotment certificates issued by the government
