Patna: A state-of-the-art national-level sports complex is set to be developed in Gardnibagh, Patna, as part of a major initiative to bolster Bihar’s sports infrastructure. The project, which has received administrative approval from the Bihar cabinet, will be built on approximately 10 acres of land and feature a seating capacity of 40,000.
The upcoming complex will be an upgrade of the existing sports stadium in Gardnibagh and is expected to be completed within the next 18 to 24 months. According to the state’s Building Construction Department, the tendering process will be finalised in the coming months, following which the developer will be appointed.
Spread across 1,200 square metres, the facility will cater to multiple sports disciplines. Plans include the construction of 10 cricket pitches—five of which will be designated exclusively for practice—along with two astro turf grounds adhering to international standards, making the complex suitable for hockey and other turf-based sports.
An administrative block will also be constructed to manage sports activities and events hosted at the venue.
Officials say the complex will serve as a significant asset for athletes in Patna and across Bihar, offering a modern platform for training and competition. It is also expected to pave the way for hosting national and potentially international sporting events, encouraging the emergence of young sporting talent in the region.
