Patna Police Raid Beur Jail After Killing of Businessman Gopal Khemka

Patna: Patna Police have carried out an extensive raid on Beur Jail as part of investigations into the murder of prominent businessman Gopal Khemka, who was shot dead outside his home on Friday night.
The operation was led by Patna Inspector General Jitendra Rana and involved senior police officials including the Senior Superintendent of Police, three City Superintendents of Police, and teams from multiple police stations.
According to police sources, investigators suspect that inmates inside Beur Jail may have issued instructions to assailants outside to carry out Khemka’s killing. Officers conducted a detailed search of the cells belonging to several prisoners believed to be linked to criminal networks. Jail authorities reportedly cooperated fully during the operation.
Khemka was gunned down at close range late on Friday as he returned from the Bankipur Club and reached the entrance of his residence. Assailants riding a scooter shot him near Gandhi Maidan, leaving him dead on the spot.
The killing has prompted heightened concern, not only because of Khemka’s profile as a businessman but also due to its echoes of past violence against his family. His son, Gunjan Khemka, was shot dead on December 20, 2018 in Hajipur’s industrial area. That murder was linked to a suspected land dispute and involved professional shooters. Police are now probing possible connections between the two killings as part of their investigation.
