Bihar to Expand Women-Only Pink Bus Service Across Districts by September

Patna: Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) is set to train 2,000 women drivers to operate its upcoming fleet of pink buses. An important meeting was held on Monday between BSRTC Administrator Atul Kumar Verma and Special Duty Officer of the Transport Department Aruna Kumari with operators of the state’s Motor Vehicle Driver Training Centres to finalise the framework for the initiative.

The training will be conducted in three phases, with 500 women drivers trained in each phase for 30 days. Women holding Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) licences will be eligible to apply, and applications for the first phase will open soon. Only drivers skilled in handling buses will receive certification upon completion.

It has been made mandatory for all residential training schools to provide clean toilets, drinking water facilities, and high boundary walls to ensure safety and convenience for women trainees.

According to BSRTC Administrator Atul Kumar Verma, 80 pink buses will reach Bihar by the end of August. The move aims to empower women with new employment opportunities in public transport. “The department is preparing a detailed framework for residential training in collaboration with training centre operators,” he said.

The meeting was attended by operators of motor vehicle training institutes from districts including Purnia, Aurangabad, Lakhisarai, Munger, Banka, Gopalganj, Darbhanga, and Siwan.
