Businessman Kidnapped in Muzaffarpur, Family Gets Ransom Call

A tea trader in Muzaffarpur was allegedly kidnapped by men posing as police officers, with his family receiving a demand for Rs 11 lakh

Muzaffarpur: A tea leaf businessman from Muzaffarpur has gone missing in a suspected kidnapping case. Anand Rai, who lives in Gobarsahi Dumri under Sadar police station area, disappeared on Monday afternoon. He had gone out to pick up his son Shivam from school but did not return home. His wife Tanya Rai, who is a teacher in the same school, said that some people posing as UP Police and Narcotics Department officers took him away.

When his son came out of school, he saw their car parked outside but could not find his father. The worried boy asked the school guard but got no information. He then called his mother. Tanya tried to contact Anand on his phone. At first, he picked up the call and said he was with some people and would talk later, then the call got disconnected and his phone was switched off.

After about half an hour, Tanya received another call from the same number. The caller said he was a sub-inspector from UP Police and that Anand Rai was with him. Then another person spoke on the phone and demanded Rs 11 lakh for his release. The family got scared after hearing this ransom demand and immediately went to the police.

Tanya Rai reached Sadar police station with her son and filed a written complaint about her husband’s kidnapping. Police officers are now investigating the matter and trying to find out where Anand Rai has been taken. This incident has created tension in the area, especially after Patna businessman Gopal Khemka was murdered outside his house recently.
