Negligence in Voter List Revision: Salary of BLO Supervisor Stopped in Kishanganj’s Kochadhaman Assembly

Kishanganj: A case of serious negligence has come to light during the ongoing Special Summary Revision of the voter list in the Kochadhaman Assembly constituency of Kishanganj district. The Election Commission has flagged irregularities at polling stations numbered 68 to 75, leading to action against a Block Level Officer (BLO) supervisor.
According to official sources, an inspection was carried out on July 7 by the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO). The review found that only 844 enumeration forms had been uploaded through the BLO app across the affected polling stations — a figure deemed highly unsatisfactory at this stage of the revision process.
Additionally, the process of receiving voter forms was also found to be inadequate.
Supervisor Failed to Monitor BLOs
Dhanshyam, who is posted as an accountant and IT assistant, was also serving as a BLO supervisor for multiple centers. However, he allegedly failed to monitor the performance of the BLOs under his charge, resulting in delays and lapses in the election-related work.
Officials said that the supervisor’s negligence directly impacted the progress of the voter list revision — a process considered both time-bound and critical for ensuring electoral accuracy and integrity.
Salary Withheld Over Dereliction of Duty
Taking swift action, the concerned department issued an order on Tuesday night to withhold Dhanshyam’s salary from June 27 to July 7. The directive has been forwarded to the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer of Kochadhaman for immediate implementation.
A senior election officer stated, “The voter list revision is a highly sensitive task. Any negligence in this regard is unacceptable. If similar instances come to light again, strict disciplinary action will be taken against the responsible officials.”
