Patna: The impact of Cyclone Arnab continues to be felt across Bihar, with the Meteorological Department issuing an alert for 13 districts, warning of heavy rainfall, lightning and winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph over the next 24 hours.
However, the impact of the cyclone is expected to weaken, bringing relief after three days of continuous rainfall. According to the Patna Meteorological Centre, light rain may continue in some parts of the state on November 1 and 2, with weather conditions likely to improve gradually.
The department has cautioned that the weather may not clear simultaneously across all districts.
Patna to witness cloudy skies and intermittent rain
In Patna, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy on Saturday, with the possibility of one or two spells of rain. The maximum and minimum temperatures are forecast to remain around 27°C and 21°C, respectively.
Cloudy conditions and rain may continue on November 1, followed by the possibility of light drizzle from November 2. The weather is expected to clear by November 3, after which temperatures may gradually fall and morning and evening chill may intensify.
Heavy rainfall disrupts normal life, damages crops
The impact of Cyclone Arnab was particularly evident across Bihar on Friday. Patna remained overcast from morning until late evening, with intermittent rainfall and strong winds disrupting normal life.
Roads in several areas accumulated mud following the rain. Farmers have also expressed concern over damage to mature paddy crops. Strong winds flattened standing crops in several places, while harvested produce left in fields was soaked.
The rainfall has brought down temperatures across several districts. Maximum temperatures are expected to rise again as the weather clears, while minimum temperatures may gradually decline during the first week of November.
Islampur records 58.8mm rainfall
During the past 24 hours, Islampur in Nalanda district recorded the highest rainfall at 58.8mm, while Patna received 32.1mm.
Wind speeds in Bhojpur reached 44 kmph. Maximum temperatures fell across most districts, including the state capital.
Patna’s maximum temperature dropped by 2°C in the past 24 hours to 22.8°C. Kaimur recorded the highest maximum temperature in the region at 27.4°C.
Cyclone remnant moves towards Chhattisgarh
According to the Meteorological Centre, the remnant of cyclonic storm Arnab has weakened into a low-pressure area over northern Chhattisgarh and adjoining parts of eastern Madhya Pradesh.
Light rainfall is likely at isolated places in both northern and southern Bihar, including Patna, on November 1 and 2.
Although the spell of heavy rainfall is expected to subside, cloudy conditions and occasional showers may persist in some districts. A gradual increase in morning and evening chill is expected as temperatures begin to fall.
