CM Nitish Kumar Sent Pension Money to 1 Crore People in Bihar

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar has sent Rs 1,227 crore to pensioners, giving them their first payment at the new higher rate

Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has given a big gift to the people of Bihar. On Thursday, he transferred Rs 1,227 crore to the bank accounts of 1.11 crore pensioners. This is the first time that pensioners have received money at the new increased rate of Rs 1,100 per month. Earlier, they used to get only Rs 400 per month under disabled, elderly, and widow pension schemes.

The CM said that now the pension money will come into people’s bank accounts on the 10th of every month. To celebrate this, programs were organised in all 38 districts of Bihar. Events were held at district headquarters, block offices, panchayats, and in over 43,000 villages to inform people about this new benefit.

According to the government, more than 60 lakh people attended these programs across the state. Earlier on 1 July, Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena had held a meeting and given guidelines to all District Magistrates for smooth transfer of pension money. During the event, CM Nitish Kumar also spoke to some pensioners and heard their experiences about receiving the pension.

A big state-level program was organised in Patna where Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Sinha and Samrat Choudhary were also present along with many officials. CM Nitish spoke to pensioners online during the event. The government said that around 60 lakh people were connected with the Chief Minister online to celebrate this special occasion.
