Bihar’s Industry Department Drives Economic Transformation with Focus on Startups and Local Enterprises

Patna: The Industry Department of Bihar is emerging as a catalyst for the state’s economic growth, rebranding itself as a key driver in the vision of a ‘self-reliant Bihar’. Through a combination of targeted schemes, policy reforms, and infrastructure initiatives, the department is seeking to position Bihar as an attractive destination for entrepreneurs and investors alike.
Over recent years, the department has implemented a range of policies including the New Industrial Policy, the Startup Bihar Policy, the Chief Minister Udyami Yojana (CMUY), and the Logistics Policy. These have been designed to stimulate local enterprise, support innovation, and create employment opportunities—particularly for youth and marginalised communities.
Schemes such as the CMUY have provided crucial financial and mentorship support to thousands of emerging entrepreneurs, especially women and members of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Backward Classes. Meanwhile, more than 1,500 startups have received assistance under the Startup Bihar Policy, helping to foster a growing ecosystem of innovation and enterprise in the state.
Infrastructural efforts are also gaining momentum, with the development of industrial parks, food processing hubs, and textile clusters in key districts aimed at expanding employment and industrial output.
To further facilitate growth, the department has introduced initiatives such as the Bihar Idea Festival, Bihar Business Connect, skill development programmes, and a streamlined Single Window Clearance System. Officials say the focus is on improving ease of doing business and expediting investment proposals through a robust review and approval mechanism.
