Chhapra: A school teacher was shot dead in Chhapra district of Bihar on Wednesday in what police suspect was a case of local rivalry over territorial supremacy.
The victim, identified as 46-year-old Santosh Rai, was attacked by two assailants on a motorbike while returning home to Bisahi village in Dariyapur, located within the jurisdiction of the local police station. His driver, named as Congress Rai, sustained serious injuries in the incident.
According to initial reports, the gunmen opened fire at close range, just a short distance from Rai’s home. Both victims were rushed to Parsa Primary Health Centre and later referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) due to the severity of their injuries. Santosh Rai succumbed to his wounds en route.
Police sources said the motive behind the killing appears to be a turf dispute. Santosh Rai is believed to have held control over the Parsa bus stand, a location allegedly contested by rival groups. Officers say the attack may be linked to this ongoing feud.
The teacher was also reportedly the nephew of JP Rai, a known figure with several criminal cases against him, though he is currently out on bail.
