Patna: Justice Vipul M Pancholi has become the new Chief Justice of Patna High Court. He took oath of office and secrecy on Monday morning at Raj Bhavan. The oath was administered by Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at 10:45am in the presence of senior officials and dignitaries.
After the ceremony, a welcome event was organised at Shatabdi Bhawan inside the Patna High Court premises at 12:15pm. Judges, advocates, officers and staff attended to greet the new Chief Justice. At 12:45pm, Justice Pancholi officially took charge of the court and sat with Justice Parth Sarthi on the division bench to begin his work.
Justice Pancholi was born in Ahmedabad in 1968. He completed his BSc in Electronics from St Xavier’s College, Ahmedabad, and then studied law. He started practising in Gujarat High Court in 1991 and also worked as a government advocate. Later, he was appointed a judge in Gujarat High Court and was transferred to Patna High Court in July 2023, where he became the second senior-most judge.
In July 2025, President Droupadi Murmu appointed him as Chief Justice of Patna High Court. Lawyers and court officials believe his experience and dedication will help speed up the judicial process in Bihar.
