Patna: The family of Dr Yajuvendra Sahu, a first-year postgraduate student at Patna AIIMS, has alleged that his death was not suicide but murder, and has demanded a CBI investigation into the case.
Sahu was found dead on July 19 in Room 515 of Hostel Number 10 within the AIIMS campus. Initial reports suggested suicide, with syringes and injections discovered near the body. However, his family believes he was mentally harassed and pushed to death.
A case has been registered at Phulwarisharif police station under sections related to abetment to suicide, with investigations ongoing. Patna police stated that the probe will take into account the postmortem report, forensic findings and witness statements.
Amid rising suspicions, a second postmortem was conducted at Patna Medical College and Hospital under magistrate supervision, with videography, after the family questioned the AIIMS report.
Speaking to the media, Sahu’s younger brother said: “We believe this was not suicide. He was murdered. The video of his body being removed from the room raises serious doubts. We demand a high-level inquiry, even a CBI investigation, so the truth comes out.”
Another family member echoed similar concerns, claiming Sahu had been mentally tortured: “Everyone is saying something wrong happened to him. He was harassed.”
The Junior Residents’ Association of AIIMS Patna has reportedly written to the Union Health Ministry, urging an independent and impartial inquiry into Sahu’s death.
