Patna: In a significant push towards technology-driven governance, Bihar Police has fully integrated digital operations in 968 police stations across the state under the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) project. These stations now record entries like station diaries and FIRs directly on the CCTNS portal, accessible via the ICJS platform.
A state control room, operational 24 hours a day at the Police Headquarters, ensures constant monitoring and technical support, particularly for the state’s expanding CCTV network. As per directives from the Supreme Court, CCTV cameras have been installed in 1,212 police stations and outposts, with installation ongoing in an additional 176.
To support this digital expansion, 373 newly created or upgraded police stations are being equipped with necessary hardware, software, and internet connectivity. The Criminal Investigation Department has also procured 4,344 mobile phones and laptops, and 8,661 investigation officers have been connected through SMS services.
Between July 1, 2024 and July 27, 2025, a total of 1,378 Zero FIRs were filed, reflecting the growing digital access and real-time data integration. From July 1 to December 31, 2024, 627 Zero FIRs were registered, while 751 were filed between January 1 and July 27, 2025.
In another step towards digital policing, a Citizen Service Portal is set to go live within a month, aiming to provide accessible and secure services to the public.
Pre-login services will include:
- Accessing FIR copies
- Submitting confidential tips
- Viewing information on wanted criminals
Post-login features will cover:
- Lost property reports
- Missing person reports
- Domestic help and tenant verification
- E-complaints
- Senior citizen registration
- Information on unidentified persons or dead bodies
- Details of arrested or wanted individuals
Meanwhile, training for district-level officers, including SPs and DSPs, on CCTNS functionality and integration with prosecution services was completed on July 18 and 25.
An e-summon system is also being introduced, while successful integration and testing of the post-mortem and MLC (Medico-Legal Case) modules with CCTNS have been completed. The Health Department is expected to take the next steps for implementation.
Between June 1 and July 28, a total of 54,717 FIRs have been registered statewide, underscoring the increasing reliance on digital platforms for law enforcement and public service delivery.
