Patna: Heavy rain disrupted life in parts of Bihar on Friday morning, particularly in Patna and Hajipur, where waterlogging led to severe inconvenience for residents. Several areas in Patna and Danapur witnessed knee-deep water, impacting traffic movement and daily activities.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for 13 districts, including Patna, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning over the next 48 hours. The department has urged local administrations to be on high alert and activate disaster management protocols.
Orange and Yellow Alerts Across Bihar
While 13 districts remain under orange alert, a yellow alert has been declared in 25 districts, including Gopalganj and Siwan. These regions are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by winds reaching up to 40 km/h.
In its advisory, the IMD stated, “There is a possibility of thunderstorms and lightning in several parts of the state. The next 48 hours are crucial in terms of weather developments.” Officials have been asked to ensure preparedness for any emergencies arising from the inclement weather.
Weather in the Last 24 Hours
According to the IMD, Lakhisarai and Patna received notable rainfall in the past 24 hours. Patna recorded a maximum temperature of 34.1°C on Thursday, a 2-degree rise compared to Wednesday’s 32.1°C. Despite the rain, sunshine broke through later in the day across several parts of the capital.
In other parts of the state, the weather remained mixed. Motihari recorded the highest maximum temperature at 35.5°C, followed closely by Darbhanga at 35.2°C. Nalanda, Saharsa, and Gopalganj saw dark cloud cover, but no significant rainfall was reported.
Impact and Preparedness
Residents in low-lying areas of Patna have expressed concern over repeated waterlogging, a recurring issue during the monsoon season. Civic authorities have begun dewatering operations in several affected localities.
The district administrations of the alerted regions have been directed to remain vigilant, especially in areas prone to flooding. Relief and rescue teams are reportedly on standby in flood-sensitive zones.
Meteorologists have advised citizens to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid waterlogged areas, and keep emergency kits handy.
