Patna: A Mithila Painting Training Centre was inaugurated on Friday near Pokhar Bhawan at Mainpura, Rajapur Bridge, Patna, under the Bihar Skill Development Mission. The initiative, run by the Labour Resources Department, is aimed at empowering the youth—especially women—by linking them with employment and self-employment through traditional folk arts.
The programme is a part of a broader effort to revive and promote Bihar’s rich cultural heritage while offering sustainable livelihood opportunities. The centre will provide free training, essential materials, and technical support to participants. Once trained, the youth can either start their own ventures or find employment in both government and private projects.
Officials stated that the primary goal is to enhance skills in traditional arts like Mithila painting, enabling individuals to convert their artistic talent into income-generating opportunities. The move is expected to not only support cultural preservation but also boost economic empowerment, particularly for women.
Plans are also underway to expand similar training programmes to other local art forms across the state. By creating such platforms, Bihar aims to elevate its folk traditions to national and international recognition while opening new avenues of permanent employment for its youth.
