Patna: The Bihar government has approved a new land pooling policy, aimed at developing satellite townships and promoting planned urban expansion across the state. The decision was made during a Nitish cabinet meeting on Tuesday, marking a significant step toward the systematic growth of Bihar’s cities, including the ambitious Greater Patna project.
Urban Development Minister Jibesh Kumar announced that under the new policy, land will be pooled to create new townships in divisional cities. In exchange for their land, landowners will receive 55% of the developed plots back, ensuring they benefit directly from the urban expansion.
The remaining land will be strategically allocated for public and social infrastructure:
- 22% of the land will be reserved for the construction of roads.
- 5% will be dedicated to parks and other public structures.
- 3% will be used for housing for weaker sections of society.
- The government will retain the remaining 15% for its own use within the new townships.
Minister Kumar stated that this policy will be crucial for the planned development of Greater Patna, a project that seeks to expand the capital by integrating 14 blocks from four subdivisions, including Patna Sadar, Danapur, and Phulwarisharif. The development plan for Greater Patna is designed to accommodate population growth up to the year 2050, with a focus on creating comprehensive infrastructure, including new townships, roads, and public amenities.
