Patna: In response to widespread drainage blockages and waterlogging caused by the monsoon rains, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) is calling on residents and shopkeepers to stop illegally dumping garbage into drains. A recent inspection revealed that drains in various parts of the city are severely obstructed by a mix of solid waste, including plastic bottles, polythene, coconut shells, and construction debris.
Municipal Commissioner Jeevesh Kumar has ordered a “war-footing” effort to clear the blocked drains. Workers are using special machinery and manual labor to remove the refuse and restore proper water flow.
PMC officials emphasized that this problem is largely preventable and that the improper disposal of waste is a major cause of the city’s drainage issues. The corporation is urging citizens to:
- Use designated door-to-door waste collection services for all household and commercial garbage.
- Avoid throwing any solid waste into drains or public places.
The PMC warned that strict action will be taken against those who continue to dispose of garbage illegally. Citizens experiencing drainage problems in their areas can contact the corporation’s helpline at 155304 for immediate assistance.
The corporation is also encouraging residents to adopt scientific waste management practices, such as separating dry and wet waste at the source, to help ensure the city’s sanitation and drainage systems function effectively.
