Darbhanga: A tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday at the DMCH campus in Darbhanga, where a father allegedly shot and killed his son-in-law, a nursing student, in broad daylight. The father, reportedly enraged by his daughter’s love marriage, opened fire in front of the BSc Nursing College.
The victim, identified as Rahul Kumar, a second-year nursing student, sustained a gunshot wound to his left rib cage. He was rushed to DMCH in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries shortly after admission. Rahul was a resident of Pipra village in Supaul district.
Following the shooting, the accused, Prem Shankar Jha of Bangaon, Saharsa district, attempted to flee but was apprehended by agitated college students. He was severely beaten by the crowd before being admitted to DMCH in critical condition. A country-made pistol and a cartridge were recovered from him.
In protest of the incident, dozens of BSc Nursing College students gathered at the emergency department, causing a commotion that halted treatment services. Students forcibly entered the examination room, leading to scuffles with the police. As the situation escalated, senior officials and a large police force were deployed to the scene. Despite police presence, students initially refused to open the emergency gate. Police eventually used mild force to disperse the crowd, which further angered the students, leading to stone-pelting before they were finally moved away.
SSP Jagunath Reddy Jalareddy confirmed the incident, stating that Rahul, a BSc Nursing College student, was shot dead by his father-in-law. The body has been sent for post-mortem, and further action in the case is underway, with the accused currently receiving treatment at DMCH.
