Patna: The Patna Police have arrested two more individuals in connection with the high-profile murder of notorious criminal Chandan Mishra, who was shot and killed inside a city hospital on July 17, 2025. The latest arrests, along with a recent recovery of heroin, have unveiled a deeper criminal network involved in both organized crime and the illegal drug trade.
The newly arrested suspects, Vijaykant Pandey alias Rudra Pandey and Rajesh Yadav, were brought to Patna from Buxar for questioning. According to Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya K Sharma, evidence and confessions from previously arrested individuals linked both men to the murder. During interrogation, Rajesh Yadav admitted to being part of a group that conducted a reconnaissance of the hospital on July 12, 2025, to plan the attack. The SSP stated that the murder was orchestrated by a notorious criminal, Sheru Singh, who is currently lodged in Purulia jail.
Heroin Recovered from Suspect
Following a tip from Rajesh Yadav, police conducted a raid and recovered 190 grams of heroin. A new case has been registered under the Rupaspur police station, suggesting that the gang is not only involved in violent crime but also in drug trafficking.
This brings the total number of arrests in the case to nine. Shortly after the murder, police identified and arrested four suspects—Tausif Raja, Badshah, Harsh Bhim, and Nishu Khan—in a joint operation with Kolkata Police. Subsequently, three other accused—Balwant Singh, Ravi Ranjan Singh, and Abhishek Kumar—were caught in an encounter in Bhojpur. Balwant and Ravi sustained leg injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at PMCH, Patna.
SSP Sharma emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, with police actively pursuing other absconding accused. The focus has expanded to investigating the financial transactions and potential gang war links behind the murder, as the case appears to be a part of a larger organized crime syndicate involving criminals from multiple districts and states.
