Patna: Patna is on high alert as the water level of the Ganga continues to rise after several days of heavy rain. The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Budco teams are working day and night to drain water from flooded areas of the city. They are also spraying anti-larva chemicals and using lime powder to prevent diseases after the water is cleared. Officials fear that if the Ganga keeps rising, floodwater could enter parts of the city.
Municipal Commissioner and Budco Managing Director Animesh Kumar Parashar has identified the most sensitive areas where water could enter. Engineers and officers have been posted at every ghat from Digha to Kangan Ghat. They will check for any leaks, fix problems immediately, and keep constant watch on the situation.
The alert covers several zones. In Patliputra Zone, important points include Kurji Nala, Gosai Tola, LCT Ghat, Patliputra Station, Digha Canal and Rajapur Sump House. Bankipur Zone teams are guarding the area between Krishna Ghat and NIT, and near Kali Ghat. Azimabad Zone covers Pathari Ghat to Raja Ghat, Gai Ghat, Mahavir Ghat and Khajekala Ghat. Patna City Zone includes Kangan Ghat, Sharifaganj Ghat, Balu Ghat and other risky spots.
Workers have been told to stay at their assigned locations and report any problem to officers and the headquarters right away. Authorities say quick action will be the key to keeping the Ganga’s water from entering Patna’s streets in the coming days.
