Patna: The Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) has unearthed assets far exceeding initial estimates in its investigation against Jehanabad DSP (Headquarters) Sanjeev Kumar, revealing extensive movable and immovable property allegedly amassed through illegal earnings. The value of the seized assets is nearly double the disproportionate wealth recorded in the original FIR.
SVU officials were reportedly stunned to discover that Kumar owns 10 trucks worth around Rs 3 crore, with registration papers in his wife’s name. The documents were seized from his Khagaria property, while details of the type of fuel supplied by the trucks were found at his Jehanabad hideout. In addition, jewellery worth Rs 38 lakh was recovered from his Patna residence.
Investigators also found that Kumar’s wife holds a current account in ICICI Bank, Patna, along with several other accounts in State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Bank of India, and IDBI Bank. Multiple bank transactions are under scrutiny.
Links to Land Mafia and Multiple Properties
During the raids, the SVU uncovered evidence linking Kumar to land mafias during his tenure in Khagaria. He allegedly purchased several properties through these networks, including agricultural land at four locations in Begusarai worth Rs 23.5 lakh, a plot in Khagaria valued at Rs 20 lakh, and land in Samastipur worth Rs 11 lakh.
The DSP owns a four-storey house in Patna’s Ramnagari Sector-3, valued in crores, and a large building in Khagaria housing NECTAR Hospital. Land documents and cash were also seized from his Jehanabad government residence. Officials claimed several “objectionable documents” were found and will be presented in court during the trial. Kumar also owns an SUV and a bike.
Three-Decade Career and Salary vs. Assets
Sanjeev Kumar joined Bihar Police as a sub-inspector in 1994, later rising to inspector and then DSP. Over 30 years of service, he earned Rs 3.43 crore in salary, reported spending Rs 1.89 crore, and declared savings of Rs 1.54 crore.
However, the SVU alleges that his actual assets include movable and immovable property worth Rs 3.64 crore. This far exceeds the Rs 1.52 crore in disproportionate assets mentioned in the FIR.
Following a court-issued search warrant, simultaneous raids were carried out at Kumar’s residences in Patna, Jehanabad, and Khagaria on Friday. Kumar was present at his Patna home during the operation.
The investigation is ongoing, with the SVU preparing to submit all recovered evidence to the court.
