Bhojpur: A 17-year-old boy, missing for two days in Bihar’s Bhojpur district, was found dead in a canal near the private bus stand under Nawada police station area on Saturday. Police suspect he was kidnapped, assaulted, and murdered after his family failed to meet a ransom demand of Rs 20,000.
The deceased has been identified as Vishwakarma Kumar alias Chhappan Kumar, son of the late Rameshwar Yadav. According to his cousin Satya Narayan, the teenager had an altercation with a local auto driver two days ago, during which the glass of the auto was broken. On Thursday evening, when Vishwakarma went to the station on his bike, the accused youth, identified as Nandlal’s son, allegedly caught him with the help of accomplices.
Ransom Call Before Murder
Satya Narayan said Vishwakarma later called his mother from his own phone, telling her, “These people are beating me. They are demanding Rs 20,000. Bring the money quickly, otherwise they will kill me.” Moments later, his phone was switched off.
On Friday, the family found his bike abandoned in Malthar market and informed the police, naming Nandlal’s son and his associates as suspects. The same day, Nawada police informed them that a body had been recovered from the canal. The family identified it as Vishwakarma’s.
One Detained, Raids Underway
Police have taken Nandlal into custody for questioning and sent the body to Sadar Hospital for postmortem. SHO Bipin Bihari said the investigation is underway based on the family’s complaint, and raids are being conducted to arrest other accused using technical surveillance.
Vishwakarma was the youngest among three siblings and the only son of his widowed mother. His father passed away a few years ago. The family has accused the suspects of kidnapping, demanding ransom, and killing him before dumping the body in the canal.
