Patna: Heavy monsoon rains and increased water discharge from dams have caused a rapid rise in the Ganga and other rivers across Bihar, triggering severe flooding in several districts. The situation is particularly dire in the Diara area of Patna, where hundreds of villagers have been forced to abandon their homes and migrate towards the city.
Around 100 residents from the flood-affected Diara region have gathered at Patna’s Law College Ghat and Barharwa Ghat, bringing their cattle with them. Many are now camping near the foot overbridge at Marine Drive in Mahendru, relying on boats for access. Villagers report that they have been migrating for around ten days but say government assistance has yet to reach them.
Flood victims have raised serious concerns about the lack of essential supplies for their livestock, including fodder, clean drinking water, food, and medical care. Several animals have reportedly died due to the shortage of fodder. Despite repeated appeals for help to local authorities, the villagers say their plight remains largely ignored.
In response, the district administration and disaster management department have stated that relief camps providing accommodation, food, medical services, and fodder for cattle have been set up at six locations for those displaced by the floods. However, many villagers from the Diara area say they are unaware of these camps and have called on officials to expedite relief efforts to safeguard their families and livestock.
