Patna: The monsoon will remain active across Bihar through August 14, bringing periods of rain that are expected to intensify on August 12 and 13 before weakening after August 15, according to the India Meteorological Department’s regional updates for North Bihar. The recent spell delivered around 4.2 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, nudging temperatures down slightly and providing respite from heat across several districts.
On Sunday, after a sunny morning, dark clouds built up rapidly and delivered roughly an hour of heavy rain over Muzaffarpur and nearby areas, a pattern IMD attributes to active monsoon conditions likely to persist for the next few days. The day’s maximum temperature was recorded at 33.5°C—about 0.4°C above normal—while the minimum settled near 25.6°C, about 1.0°C below normal, with westerly winds around 13.5 km/h. The department advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms and avoid open areas during lightning.
Agriculture officials and local observers said the rain has been timely for paddy, aiding sapling establishment and reducing irrigation needs, although low-lying urban and peri-urban pockets reported waterlogging after intense bursts. IMD guidance indicates conditions should turn more subdued after 15 August, reducing the frequency and intensity of showers while keeping the broader monsoon pattern intact.
Public advisories emphasize monitoring district forecasts, securing outdoor electrical connections, and planning travel around short, heavy spells that can overwhelm drainage.
