Patna: Following the inauguration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, the central and Bihar governments are moving to develop Punauradham in Sitamarhi regarded as the birthplace of Goddess Sita – as a major religious destination.
The Punauradham temple complex will be redeveloped alongside the construction of the Ram–Janki Corridor, a four-lane highway directly linking it to the Ram temple in Ayodhya. The 240km project, cleared by the central government, carries an estimated cost of Rs 6,155 crore.
Although Sitamarhi currently has no direct air services, road connectivity from Patna, Gaya and Darbhanga airports will be expanded to four lanes. Work is also under way on road overbridges and widening existing routes to improve access.
Officials say the scheme aims to ease pilgrim travel, boost local employment, stimulate trade and provide the region with greater visibility on the global religious tourism map.
