Patna: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bihar has launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav, accusing them of using “indecent and disrespectful” language against prime minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during a political rally in Darbhanga.
The controversy has taken a legal turn after BJP state executive member Krishna Singh Kallu filed a police complaint against Gandhi at Gandhi Maidan police station in Patna. The BJP alleges Gandhi has repeatedly made derogatory remarks about PM Modi and home minister Amit Shah, and that offensive comments against PM Modi’s late mother were also made from the Congress stage.
Deputy chief minister Vijay Sinha condemned the opposition leaders, claiming they were “creating anarchy in Bihar” and “inciting supporters through abusive language”. He accused Gandhi and Yadav of having “thieves in their DNA”, adding: “These people used to rob votes and are dacoits of democracy. Their family itself has been dacoits. The thief makes noise – and these thieves are making noise.”
Sinha argued that Gandhi and Yadav, “born with a golden spoon”, were attempting to turn Bihar into “a Dharamshala” and disrupt Indian society. He demanded that both leaders issue a public apology, calling their remarks a sign of “panic and restlessness”.
Bihar’s other deputy CM, Samrat Choudhary, echoed the criticism, describing the alleged remarks as “a shameful day for democracy”. He said Congress and RJD had a history of treating democracy like “monarchy”, and insisted that voters would respond decisively at the ballot box.
The BJP further alleged that Gandhi and Yadav’s ongoing yatra had “crossed all limits of meanness” and become “a culmination of insult, hatred and lowliness”. The party pointed to earlier controversies, including statements by visiting leaders such as Stalin and Revanth Reddy, which it said insulted Biharis.
Party leaders warned that even if Gandhi and Yadav apologised “a thousand times”, the people of Bihar would not forgive them. “This incident is extremely shameful,” the BJP said, adding that it would be answered in the elections.
