Purnia: Flight bookings have opened at Purnia Airport in Bihar, the state’s fourth operational airport, ahead of its formal inauguration next month. The facility, which has been assigned the code PXN, is now visible on IndiGo’s booking platform, with flights between Delhi and Purnia already listed.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the airport on September 15, when he will also lay the foundation stone for a second terminal building costing around Rs 350 crore. The project is expected to significantly boost connectivity and development in the Koshi and Seemanchal regions.
In the initial phase, IndiGo will operate direct flights from Purnia to Delhi and Kolkata, while Star Air has announced services to Kolkata and Ahmedabad. Air India and SpiceJet are also in the process of securing approvals to operate from the new airport.
Construction of the first terminal and runway has been nearly completed, with the facility set to accommodate 300 passengers at a time. The second terminal, once completed, will raise capacity to 1,000 passengers, making Purnia the largest airport in Bihar.
