Patna: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accused the Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) of insulting “the mothers of the country” after abusive remarks were allegedly directed at his mother during a political event in Bihar.
Speaking on Tuesday, PM Modi said the attacks were not only against his family but against “crores of mothers across India”. He described the remarks as “an insult to every mother in the country”, adding: “Mother is our world, mother is our self-respect. My mother has no connection with politics, and her insult is deeply painful.”
The comments come in the wake of the Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar, where members of the opposition parties were accused of using derogatory language. PM Modi called on Congress and RJD leaders to apologise to Chhathi Maiya, a deity revered in Bihar, and urged the public to resist such political behaviour.
“We will not tolerate abuse of our mother, we will not tolerate attacks on our honour,” he said, accusing the two opposition parties of disrespect and demanding that “voices should be raised from every street”.
Alongside his remarks, PM Modi announced a new financial support initiative for women in Bihar. He virtually launched the Bihar Rajya Jeevika Nidhi Credit Cooperative Union Limited and transferred Rs 105 crore to the organisation’s bank account. Modi said the scheme would allow women associated with Jeevika self-help groups in villages to access funds more easily, helping them expand their businesses and livelihoods.
