Patna: A man was shot in broad daylight outside a police station in Bihar’s Patna district on Thursday, in an incident that has raised questions about public safety in the area.
Rahul Kumar, a resident of Hulasi Tola and son of Jitan Yadav, was shot in the chest near Maner High School, directly opposite the Maner police station. Despite his injury, Kumar managed to run to the station and alert officers. The station house officer, Pradeep Kumar, rushed him to Danapur Hospital in a police vehicle, where he is receiving treatment.
Eyewitnesses reported that two young men, both dressed in black shirts and jeans, were seen arguing outside the school at around noon before one of them pulled out a pistol and opened fire. The assailant fled the scene on a motorcycle.
Police said CCTV footage has captured the shooting, and a shell casing was recovered from the site. The incident drew a large crowd of onlookers before senior police officials, including City SP West Bhanu Pratap Singh and DSP Danapur II Amrendra Kumar Jha, arrived to investigate.
Authorities believe the attack stemmed from a personal dispute. Singh said the accused had been identified and raids were under way. “The youth who opened fire will be caught soon,” he added.
