Patna: Police in Patna have arrested a man accused of snatching a local drugstore owner’s chain, revealing a startling motive: he allegedly carried out the thefts to support his three girlfriends.
The accused, Santosh Kumar, a resident of Masaurhi currently living in a rented house on Gola Road, has a long criminal record. Officials say he faces around 18 cases across multiple police stations, including SK Puri, and has previously served time for chain-snatching offences in the Secretariat area.
The latest incident occurred on September 2 near Shivpuri turn under SK Puri police jurisdiction, when two men on a motorcycle allegedly snatched the chain of a drugshop owner. CCTV footage from the scene helped police identify Kumar, who was apprehended from his room on Thursday night. His accomplice, however, remains at large as raids continue.
During interrogation, Kumar reportedly admitted to targeting victims to fund his relationships. Police stated that he has previously committed similar thefts in Kankarbagh, Patrakar Nagar, Buddha Colony, Secretariat, and Kotwali areas. Following questioning, he has been remanded to jail.
