Bhagalpur: Two young sisters drowned on Sunday morning while bathing in the Ganga at Kali Mandir Ghat in Narayanpur block of Bhagalpur district. The tragedy unfolded when one sister slipped into deep water and the other jumped in to save her, only for both to be swept away.
The victims were identified as 15-year-old Mausam Kumari, a class 11 student, and her younger sister, 7-year-old Pari Kumari, a class 2 student. They were daughters of Babul Jha, a resident of Navtoliya village. Four girls had gone to the river to bathe, but only two managed to reach the bank safely.
Local villagers raised the alarm and informed the administration. Police and disaster response teams arrived at the scene, with divers searching for the bodies. A large crowd gathered at the ghat as news of the drowning spread.
The incident comes a day after three children were swept away near Rasidpur bridge in Nathnagar, also in Bhagalpur. Two boys, 13-year-old Rabala Kumar and 14-year-old Raja Kumar, lost their lives, while a 12-year-old boy remains in critical condition.
