Patna: Patna Women’s College organised an engaging workshop on “Protective Techniques in Psychology” on 11 September 2025, giving students a rare chance to explore how psychologists study the unconscious mind. The event was hosted by the Department of Psychology and began with a warm welcome to the resource person, Dr Binod Pandey, a clinical psychologist from BIMHAS, Koilwar.

Dr Pandey explained the concept of projective techniques in psychology, which are used to discover hidden feelings and thoughts. He introduced students to several important tools, including the Rorschach Inkblot Test, Thematic Apperception Test (TAT), Sentence Completion Test, and Draw a Person Test. Each test was explained in simple terms and followed by a practical demonstration. He also shared examples from real-life cases where these tests helped psychologists understand their patients better.

Students were very enthusiastic throughout the session and asked questions about how these techniques work and how they reveal the unconscious mind. Dr Pandey also spoke about the defence mechanisms we all use in daily life and explained why it is important to understand them. He reminded the students about ethical rules for conducting such tests, such as keeping the results confidential and respecting the participants.

The session concluded with feedback from three students who shared their experience of learning through the workshop. The programme was moderated by Nupur Shree, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, who ensured smooth coordination. It ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Riya Singh, an MA Applied Psychology student, Semester 3. The workshop left students motivated to explore psychology further and apply their learning in future studies.
