Patna: Bihar has won approval for four new industrial corridors, in what officials described as a “historic moment” for the state’s development. The announcement came at the Bihar Idea Festival in Patna on Thursday, where Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary urged greater investment to match the needs of Bihar’s 14 crore population.

Union commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal, who shared the stage with Choudhary, responded immediately, promising four corridors across different parts of the state. He hailed the Bihar Industrial Investment Promotion Package 2025 as “the simplest and most liberal package in the country.”

“This is a historic time, when under the leadership of Nitish Kumar, we are moving towards setting up industries that will provide employment to not thousands but lakhs of people,” Choudhary said, thanking Goyal and highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s support.

Choudhary pointed to Bihar’s expanding infrastructure, including a network of expressways, 13 operational Vande Bharat trains, and the upcoming Purnia airport, which he said would feature the state’s largest runway. He also cited ethanol production as a major success story, with 17 plants already functional and more planned.

According to Choudhary, nearly 40 lakh jobs have been created in the past five years, with a target of one crore by 2030. “Bihar will grow, only then the country will grow. It is our endeavour to make industry the identity of Bihar. The prosperity of Bihar will lead to the prosperity of the country,” he said.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to inaugurate and lay the foundation for projects worth nearly Rs 50,000 crore in Purnia on September 15, part of a wider package of schemes totalling Rs 1.65 lakh crore announced for Bihar.
