Purnia/Patna: Preparations are under way in Purnia for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on September 15, with the district administration enforcing strict traffic curbs and security arrangements to manage the expected crowds at his public rally.
The event will take place at the SSB ground in Shishabari, where authorities anticipate a large turnout. Officials have stressed that public safety and convenience remain a priority.
According to the advisory issued by Purnia traffic police, the movement of heavy commercial vehicles will be prohibited on all national highways passing through the district from midnight on September 13 until 10pm on September 15. Passenger buses bound for the district will also be barred from midnight on September 14 to the end of the rally. Only emergency service vehicles, including ambulances and police cars, will be exempt.
Alternative routes have been announced to ease congestion. Vehicles from Araria and Dalkola will be diverted to Kishanganj, while those from Baisi and Dagarua heading to Katihar, Bhagalpur and Naugachhia will be rerouted via Chandpur and Kadwa through Belgachhi Chowk. Traffic between Katihar and Araria will move via Kodha and Kursela to Raniganj, and passengers from Supaul and Araria will enter Purnia through Sarsi or Srinagar.
In Purnia city, road closures will also apply. The stretch from Maranga to Zeromile will remain shut between 1pm and 6pm on the day of the rally. Goods vehicles will be barred from Gulabbag mandi from September 12 to 15, while smaller vehicles entering from Jalalgarh will be diverted through Radhanagar and Kasba.
To manage the surge in visitors, the administration has designated 15 parking sites, including ITI College campus, Gulabbag marketing yard, and several private plots near major showrooms and toll plazas.
Police and administrative staff will be stationed across the district, while CCTV cameras and drones will be used to monitor the crowds. Officials said security and traffic control remain the administration’s biggest challenges as Modi’s visit draws near.
