Patna: The monsoon has once again become active in Bihar, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for rainfall across the state on Friday. Officials have warned of rain accompanied by thunder in several districts.
According to the IMD forecast, the monsoon will remain strong for the next one week, with the possibility of heavy downpours in many parts of Bihar. Meteorologists said maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to drop by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius during this period.
In the last 24 hours, Patna, Ara, Samastipur, Saran, Buxar, Bettiah, Supaul, Bhagalpur, Jamui, and Bagaha received rainfall. Meanwhile, one lakh 23 thousand cusecs of water has been released from the Gandak Barrage, creating flood-like conditions in low-lying areas.
Reason Behind Monsoon Activation
Experts at the Meteorological Centre stated that a low-pressure system has formed in the Bay of Bengal, leading to renewed monsoon activity in Bihar. Intermittent rainfall is expected across the state, with heavy showers likely between September 12 and 18.
Rain Deficit Still High
Despite the fresh spell, Bihar continues to face a rainfall deficit. So far, the state has recorded 592 mm of rain against the normal 858 mm, a shortfall of 31 percent, according to IMD data.
Weather in Patna
In the state capital, light to moderate rain is likely to continue for the next few days. The maximum temperature in Patna is expected to stay between 31–32 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may range from 24–25 degrees Celsius. The IMD said rainfall will bring a noticeable drop in heat, making the weather pleasant.
