Patna: Construction of a new ultra super critical thermal power project in Pirpainti, Bhagalpur district, is set to begin, with Adani Power Limited awaiting environmental clearance from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
The Gujarat-based company had applied for clearance on September 3, with the ministry reviewing the application from September 5 to 11. On Thursday, the ministry sought detailed inputs from related departments, marking progress towards approval of the 2,400 MW coal-based plant, which will be built across Sirmatpur and adjoining villages.
The project site will cover 374 hectares, including 67 hectares for the plant itself, 75 hectares for a reservoir, 57 hectares for a coal and railway yard, 46 hectares for an ash dyke, five hectares for a township, and 105 hectares reserved for future expansion.
Adani Power already operates plants in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, with Pirpainti becoming its eighth.
According to project plans, each unit will be fitted with a steel chimney and electrostatic precipitator capable of capturing up to 99.95% of dust and ash particles. A zero liquid discharge system will ensure no untreated wastewater leaves the plant.
Unlike conventional facilities, ultra super critical thermal plants operate at higher temperatures and pressures, improving efficiency and reducing coal use, pollution and carbon emissions.
