Patna: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi is set to return to Bihar for the second time in a month, with a rally scheduled in Purnia on September 26. The visit comes less than two weeks after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Purnia airport and announced development projects worth more than Rs 40,000 crore.
The rally marks the latest phase of the Congress’s campaign against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list, which the party alleges undermines voter rights. Priyanka’s return follows her participation in the Voter Rights Yatra alongside her brother, Rahul Gandhi, last month. The two had led a roadshow on motorbikes in Bihar, where they criticised both the NDA government and the Election Commission.
Preparations for the Purnia event are underway, with state Congress units mobilising support. The rally is also being seen as significant for Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, the independent MP from Purnia and a Congress ally, who has been publicly critical of the Modi government. Recently, Yadav accused the Centre of neglecting makhana farmers, contrasting his stance with Rahul Gandhi’s show of solidarity.
