Patna: Vandana Sinha, daughter of celebrated folk singer and Padma awardee Sharda Sinha, has sung for Anurag Kashyap’s upcoming film Nishaanchi, marking a proud moment for Bihar’s music community. The film is scheduled to release on September 19.
Sinha, who has trained in both folk and classical music, recorded a lullaby titled So ja nindiya so ja for the film. The song, written and composed by Manan Bhardwaj, was recorded in Delhi before she travelled to Mumbai to meet Kashyap.
Speaking about the experience, Sinha became emotional as she recalled her late parents. “My mother nurtured me with her voice and the spirit of singing since childhood. This joy feels incomplete without her. If both of them were alive, this happiness would have been doubled,” she said.
She added that her brother first received a call from Kashyap in February. “He wanted me to sing a song, and after we spoke, the lyrics were sent to me. The song is a lullaby, filled with tender emotions,” she said, describing Kashyap as “very easy-going and simple”.
Sinha, who did her early schooling in Ranchi and holds an MA in Music from Delhi University, continues to receive training in classical music under Guru Ojesh Pratap Singh and Soma Singh.
Her mother, Sharda Sinha, renowned for popularising Bhojpuri folk music, was honoured with the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan for her contribution to Indian music.
