Darbhanga: A violent confrontation broke out in Bihar’s Kusheshwarsthan constituency on Friday, as the convoy of Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav came under attack from workers of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM).
The incident occurred near the Biroul Kothi bridge while Yadav’s convoy was travelling from Saharsa to Samastipur. According to local reports, a scuffle erupted between Yadav’s security personnel and AIMIM supporters, who had gathered to welcome the opposition leader.
AIMIM leader Akhtar Shahanshah was seriously injured during the clash and was initially admitted to Biroul Sub-Divisional Hospital before being transferred to the Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for advanced treatment. Sources confirmed that Shahanshah sustained severe injuries to his right leg.
Witnesses said the altercation stemmed from AIMIM workers demanding their party’s inclusion in the Mahagathbandhan. Tejashwi Yadav’s security team reportedly attempted to clear the route for the convoy, leading to the confrontation. Party banners and posters were torn in the melee.
Shahanshah alleged that Yadav exploits Muslim voters for political gain and did not personally intervene or communicate with those gathered. In response, local residents and injured workers blocked the road near the Kothi bridge, prompting a deployment of security forces to restore order.
Political analysts have warned that such clashes during the campaign could heighten voter polarization and increase the risk of electoral violence. The local administration has since taken measures to enhance security in the constituency. Doctors at DMCH have stated that Shahanshah’s condition is currently stable, though the incident has intensified political tensions ahead of the upcoming elections.
