Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has taken a big step for students in Bihar by transferring Rs 2,920 crore directly into their bank accounts. The transfer was done through video conferencing during a special programme called “Sankalp.” According to officials, 49 lakh 9 thousand 336 students have received the money under different education schemes of the state government.
This amount includes benefits from popular schemes such as the Chief Minister Girls Incentive Scheme for intermediate students, the Chief Minister Cycle Scheme, dress schemes for boys and girls, the scholarship scheme, and the Kanya Utthan Yojana. The direct transfer means that students will now get their benefits without delay, helping them continue their studies without financial worries.
Along with this, the Chief Minister also started 331 new projects for schools across Bihar. These projects are worth Rs 958.79 crore and include 259 completed works that cost Rs 426.10 crore and 72 new ones that will be built for Rs 532.69 crore. The new projects will bring better school buildings, science labs, libraries, computer rooms, hostels, toilets, and drinking water facilities. These steps will help improve both the quality and reach of education in the state.
Speaking at the event, Nitish Kumar said that education has been the focus of the government since 2005. He said that the education budget was only Rs 4,366 crore in 2005, but now it has grown to Rs 77,690 crore. He credited the rise in budget for the appointment of more teachers, new school construction, and better infrastructure. “We are committed to giving quality education to every child in Bihar,” he said.
The event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, Education Minister Sunil Kumar, Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit, Development Commissioner Dr. S. Siddharth, and other senior officers. A short film about the work of the Education Department was shown, and the Chief Minister was welcomed with a green plant as a symbol of growth and progress.
