Patna: In a notable recognition for Indian higher education, 21 faculty members from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna have been named among the world’s top 2% scientists in the 2025 Stanford–Elsevier ranking.
Compiled by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier, the list evaluates scientists globally using a comprehensive bibliometric analysis based on research publications and citations sourced from Scopus. Rankings consider metrics such as total citations, h-index, co-authorship-adjusted scores, and composite indicators of scientific impact.
The inclusion of IIT Patna academics underscores the institute’s growing international profile across multiple disciplines, from engineering and physics to humanities and social sciences. Among those recognised are Prof T. N. Singh, director of IIT Patna, Prof Awalendra Kumar Thakur (Physics), Dr Richa Chaudhary (Humanities & Social Science), and Dr Surajit Kumar Kumar Paul (Mechanical Engineering), alongside 17 other distinguished faculty members.
Prof Singh described the recognition as a “matter of great pride”, highlighting it as a testament to the institute’s academic strength, dedication, and research excellence.
