Saran/Patna : Four people were killed and three others injured in a horrific road accident near Sonho Toll Plaza under the Bheldi police station area of Saran district on Sunday evening. An out-of-control 18-wheeler Hyva truck collided head-on with an electric rickshaw, locally known as a Toto, on the Chapra-Muzaffarpur NH-722.
The impact was so severe that the Toto was completely mangled, killing multiple passengers. The Hyva truck subsequently crashed into an 11,000-volt iron electric pole.
Deceased Include Elderly Man, Daughter-in-Law and Granddaughter
The deceased have been identified as 60-year-old Farooq Miyan, a resident of Sultanganj in Amanour, his 35-year-old daughter-in-law Shahida Khatoon, and his 13-year-old granddaughter Shana Parveen.
A passerby, identified as 45-year-old Suresh Pandit, also died from injuries sustained in the accident.
Three Family Members Injured
Three other people were injured in the accident. They have been identified as Irshad, son of Ibrahim Miyan; Dilshad Ansari, son of Iliyas Ansari; and Junaid Ansari, son of Alamgir Ansari.
With the help of local residents, the injured were taken to the Maker Community Health Centre for treatment.
Family Was Returning After Medical Treatment
According to family members, Farooq Miyan had gone to Garkha for medical treatment and several members of his family had accompanied him in the Toto.
The family was returning home when the accident occurred near the toll plaza. A Hyva truck allegedly travelling at high speed from the Maker side lost control and collided with the Toto.
Truck Driver Flees After Accident
Following the collision, the driver of the Hyva truck reportedly abandoned the vehicle and fled the spot.
The accident triggered anger among family members and local residents. Villagers blocked NH-722 and demanded compensation for the victims.
The road blockade resulted in long queues of vehicles on both sides of the highway, causing significant disruption to traffic.
Police Reach Spot, Launch Investigation
After receiving information about the accident, Bheldi police reached the spot and began investigating the circumstances of the crash.
Maker SHO Sangram Singh also arrived with additional police personnel after the situation became tense. The police attempted to pacify the protesters and restore traffic movement on the highway.
The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination.
Search Underway for Absconding Driver
Maker SHO Sangram Singh said the bodies had been sent for post-mortem examination and efforts were being made to identify and apprehend the driver who fled the scene.
The police are investigating the circumstances leading to the collision and are also working to establish the exact sequence of events.
