Patna: The Bihar Skill Development Mission (BSDM) on Wednesday organised the Bihar Food Sector Industry Meet 2025 in Patna, pitching the state as a hub for food processing, investment, and skills training. Officials said the initiative aims to generate new employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for Bihar’s youth while giving local products such as makhana a stronger foothold in national and international markets.
The event was inaugurated by Deepak Anand, secretary of the labour resources department and CEO of the BSDM. Senior officials including special secretary Alok Kumar, labour commissioner Rajesh Bharti, and Chandragupta Institute of Management Patna director Prof Dr Rana Singh were present, alongside representatives from the Ministry of Defence and the food industry.
Anand said the workshop was organised under the guidance of chief minister Nitish Kumar and forms part of the government’s target of creating 10 million jobs. “By inviting leading food processing industries to Bihar, we aim to ensure that our youth not only gain skills but also secure meaningful employment,” he said.
The meet included panel discussions, industry presentations and the signing of MoUs with Mumbai Dabbawalas and other food enterprises. A new curriculum designed by School Net and a website for the Skilled Youth Programme were also launched under the chief minister’s “Saat Nischay” framework.
Industry leaders such as Pramod Sharma of Baidyanath Group and Hemant Kumar Singh of Naturals Dairy participated in a panel discussion on “Global Brands – Local Skills,” exploring how Bihar’s workforce could be harnessed to meet the needs of global food companies.
Labour commissioner Rajesh Bharti said the event was “historic” for Bihar. “This meet will not only strengthen the partnership between government and industry but also give a new direction to the state’s economy,” he said.
