Patna: Bihar is taking extensive measures to ensure a safe and peaceful Durga Puja this year. The state police have announced that no puja pandal will be set up, no procession will be allowed, and no idol immersion will take place without a proper license from the local police station. Videography of all processions has also been made mandatory. Every year, around 15,000 to 16,000 idols are installed in Bihar, and a similar number is expected this year. This step aims to keep large gatherings under strict supervision, especially with assembly elections scheduled in the state.
All police stations have been instructed to follow strict security rules during the festival. Additional forces have been deployed at major locations, and routes frequently used by devotees have been specially monitored to prevent incidents of snatching, robbery, or harassment. Adequate lighting will be provided in city outskirts, and magistrates will be deployed at sensitive religious sites. Police officials have also been asked to maintain constant patrols and ensure that every event follows safety standards.
Security has also been tightened along Bihar’s borders with Nepal and neighbouring states. Around 127 border police stations have been directed to increase patrolling and checking. The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has been deployed at the Nepal border, and strict monitoring has been introduced on other state borders. CCTV cameras have been installed in crowded areas, and plainclothes officers will be present at sensitive locations. People known to cause disturbances are being required to give bonds as part of preventive measures.
Social media and online activity will also be closely monitored during the festival. The Social Media Command Center and district-level cyber units will track posts and take immediate action against any objectionable content or online fraud. Police have warned the public to remain cautious of scams and fake offers during the festival. A 24-hour control room at Police Headquarters will supervise all activities. DGP Vinay Kumar has asked citizens to report any suspicious activity immediately and assured that anyone found disturbing the peace will face strict punishment.
