Patna: The Bihar Transport Department has introduced a new facility allowing vehicle owners to update their mobile numbers in their registration certificates (RC) free of cost.
The service, available through the official portal parivahan.gov.in, is aimed at ensuring that owners receive timely alerts on matters such as pollution certificates, road tax, insurance, and challan details.
Officials said that once a mobile number is linked with Aadhaar, information relating to challans, insurance, tax payments and vehicle transfers will be delivered directly to the owner’s phone. The move is expected to reduce issues caused by outdated or incorrect contact details.
The process can be completed either online or at a district transport office (DTO). For the online service, vehicle owners need to scan their RC or driving licence QR code and provide their registration number, chassis number, engine number and registration date. After submitting their Aadhaar-linked mobile number and verifying it with a one-time password (OTP), the details will be updated instantly.
The department described the facility as “free and simple”, encouraging vehicle owners to make use of the update to avoid missing critical notifications.
