Biharsharif: An under-construction railway overbridge (ROB) on Station Road in Harnaut, Nalanda district, came crashing down on Sunday evening, injuring six workers who were trapped under the debris.
Local residents and police rushed to the spot to rescue those caught in the collapse. The injured workers were admitted to a nearby private hospital, where two remain in critical condition.
Witnesses alleged that the structure’s foundation had been weak from the outset. Harnaut police station officer Amarendra Kumar said preliminary findings suggested that while the plan had been to cast two beams, placing four beams together increased the weight of the structure, causing it to give way.

The collapse sparked panic, drawing large crowds from nearby areas. Construction of the railway overbridge on Gonwa Road had been underway for the past year, with locals frequently demanding faster progress to ease travel, especially during the monsoon.
Police and senior district officials arrived at the scene soon after the incident. Teams were deployed to clear the debris, provide treatment to the injured, and launch a technical inquiry into the cause of the accident. Kumar added that strict action would be taken against those responsible once the investigation was complete.
