Patna: With Bihar heading for assembly elections, the Jan Suraaj Party has fixed October 9 as the date to release its first candidate list. The party, led by political strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor, has declared that it will field candidates on all 243 seats independently, challenging both the ruling NDA and the opposition Grand Alliance.
The announcement was made on the party’s social media handles on Friday. While the number of candidates to feature in the initial list has not been revealed, leaders indicated that names would be released in phases rather than all at once.

The move comes just days before the Election Commission is expected to formally announce the Bihar poll schedule, likely after October 6. Jan Suraaj had earlier signalled it would unveil its candidates around Navratri, but the decision has now been pushed beyond the festival season.
Uncertainty persists over Kishor’s own electoral debut. Though he has stated in the past that he will contest if the party directs him to, neither the seat nor the timing of his candidacy has been disclosed. Party insiders suggest his name could feature in the first list, though no confirmation has been made.
Uday Singh, Jan Suraaj’s national president, had earlier stressed that the party would not follow the traditional path of alliances or compromises. “We are here to offer Bihar an alternative,” he said, while hinting that candidate selection would prioritise grassroots workers and fresh faces.
