Patna: As political temperatures rise ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, Bhojpuri film star Khesari Lal Yadav has entered the debate, announcing that his wife Chanda Devi will contest as a candidate of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
Speaking to reporters in Patna, Khesari Lal used the occasion to take a swipe at fellow Bhojpuri superstar Pawan Singh, who recently returned to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). “He used to be a singer, but now he has become a politician. His power will begin from there,” Khesari quipped in a sarcastic tone.
On Singh’s high-profile meeting with Rashtriya Lok Morcha chief and Rajya Sabha member Upendra Kushwaha in Delhi on Tuesday, Khesari said: “That was personal. He was right then, and I think he is probably right now too. He has his own ideology.”
The Bhojpuri star added that he believes politics is not about friendships or enmities but about interests. “Politics involves neither emotion nor pain. It’s all about business and trade. My work is different; I am an artist,” he said.
The remarks come as speculation grows around Pawan Singh’s possible candidacy from the Shahabad region, with his entry seen as the BJP’s attempt to consolidate Rajput votes. His re-entry into the NDA has already stirred political waters, with many seeing it as a potential game-changer in key constituencies.
